Robinson Earns Silver, Three FSU Records Set On Day Five Of ACCs
Thursday’s slate featured the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle individual events.
Sophomore Logan Robinson highlighted the night with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle, breaking his own school record in the process. Freshman Ioana Stirbu continued her record-breaking week on the women’s side, while sophomore Michel Arkhangelsky placed fourth overall in the 100 butterfly. In the 400 IM, sophomore Mathias Christensen rewrote his own name in the record book once again.
“It was an amazing night for us,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We had three school records from Ioana, Mathias and Logan. Logan nearly won the whole thing, I’m super proud of him. Michel was fourth tonight and it was just an incredible night for us. Some best times across the board, and I’m looking forward to what they can do tomorrow.”
Robinson touched first in the 200 freestyle prelims with an NCAA-qualifying 1:32.21. He returned in the championship final and improved his time to 1:31.18, resetting his own school record and claiming the silver medal.
Stirbu clocked a 1:45.98 in prelims on the women’s side of the 200 freestyle to earn a lane in the C final, where she lowered her own program record to 1:45.04. The swim surpassed the 1:45.06 she set just two days earlier on the opening leg of the 800 freestyle relay.
Arkhangelsky earned his place in the A final of the 100 butterfly with a 45.19 in prelims before recording a 44.79 in the final, an NCAA-qualifying time that resulted in a fourth-place finish.
Christensen advanced to the B final of the 400 IM with an NCAA cut of 3:44.98. In finals, he dropped more than a second at 3:43.69 to place 11th overall and reset his own school record.
Senior Sophie Freeman secured a spot in the C final of the 100 butterfly after posting a 52.89 in prelims. She improved to 52.40 in finals, a personal best and the seventh-fastest performance in Florida State history.
Senior Sam Bork moved on to the B final of the 100 butterfly with an NCAA cut of 45.57 in prelims, while junior Gustav Olsson competed in the C final of the 200 freestyle after clocking an NCAA-qualifying 1:34.12 in the morning and improving to 1:34.09 in the evening session.
Freshman Lucy Porter recorded a personal-best 4:17.32 in the 400 IM prelims, placing 25th overall and narrowly missing the C final.
Through Thursday’s final event, with five days completed and two to go, the men’s team is in sixth place with 350.5 points and the women are in ninth with 223 points.
Florida State will compete again Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET for prelims in the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke with finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
