FSU junior left-hander Wes Mendes (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the start on Friday, while Michigan’s starter hasn’t been announced. On Saturday, junior righty Bryson Moore (0-0, 16.20 ERA) toes the rubber for the Seminoles against Auburn sophomore LHP Jackson Sanders (0-0, 1.50 ERA). Sunday’s Florida State starter is to be determined, and Nebraska will start sophomore right-hander Gavin Blachowicz (0-0, 1.93 ERA).

The Seminoles will play a game at an MLB ballpark for the first time since 2018, and Globe Life Field will be the fourth park that Florida State will play in that has hosted at least one full season of Major League ball.

Friday’s game between FSU and Michigan will be a matchup of two of the winningest programs in college baseball history. Florida State has amassed 3,123 wins in 79 seasons, fifth-most all-time, and Michigan has 3,127 wins in 153 seasons, just four ahead of the Seminoles at No. 4.

Coming off back-to-back run-rule victories, FSU is 3-0 on the young season, 2-0 at home and 1-0 on the road. The Seminoles began the campaign with two wins over James Madison in a rain-shortened series from February 13-14 at home before a 13-3 win at Jacksonville in eight innings on Tuesday night.

As a team, Florida State is hitting .350 with 36 hits, four home runs, four doubles, 22 walks, 34 runs scored and 29 RBI. The pitching staff owns a 3.38 ERA with nine earned runs allowed on 21 hits with 34 strikeouts and 12 walks in 24.0 innings.

Sophomore infielder Noah Sheffield has a .667 batting average with six hits in nine at-bats and has scored six runs, while junior shortstop Cal Fisher also has six hits with seven RBI. Redshirt sophomore right fielder Brody DeLamielleure paces the squad with two homers and junior center fielder Chase Williams has two stolen bases in two attempts. On the mound, junior lefty Wes Mendes did not allow a run in his Opening Day start, striking out seven in 5.0 innings to earn his first win. He’s one of three players with a win and one of eight with a 0.00 ERA. junior right-hander Brodie Purcell has one save.

NATIONALLY RANKED SEMINOLES
Florida State is nationally ranked in each major poll, including No. 16 in D1Baseball Preseason Top-25. Additionally, FSU is No. 9 according to Perfect Game, No. 11 in the NCBWA poll, No. 12 by Baseball America and No. 13 in The Athletic.

TAKING IT TO THE BIG LEAGUES
Florida State has played 19 games in three MLB ballparks, going 15-4 at big league venues and 1-0 at the one park that still hosts Major League Baseball in 2026.

FSU is most familiar with the Metrodome, having played 16 games at the domed home of the Minnesota Twins from 1988-2004 with early-season tournaments in 1988, 1992, 1995, 1999 and 2004. The Seminoles’ 12-4 record includes a 4-1 mark against host-Minnesota. Of note, head coach Link Jarrett was the starting shortstop for the Seminoles for all three games at the Metrodome in 1992.

Florida State has twice played at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, the one-year home of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2025, beating in-state rival Florida in 2010 and 2011. Most recently, FSU and Boston College squared off at historic Fenway Park in 2018, a 13-7 FSU win.

The Seminoles also have played several games at The Ballpark at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, a park where the Rays hosted an MLB regular-season series in 2007 and 2008. Additionally, Florida State is very familiar with Charles Schwab Field Omaha, home of the College World Series since 2011 and the site of an MLB matchup between the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers leading into the 2019 CWS. Four of FSU’s 24 College World Series appearances have come since the downtown Omaha ballpark opened, in 2012, 2017, 2019 and 2024.

SERIES HISTORY VS. MICHIGAN
Florida State is 7-2 all-time against Michigan, including 6-0 on the road and 1-2 at a neutral site. In a series that began in Tallahassee in 1959, the two teams most recently met in the 2019 College World Series, a 2-0 defeat. Prior to that, FSU and U-M played four times in 1995, beginning with a 17-6 win at the Metrodome in Minneapolis on March 5 before a three-game series sweep at home from March 17-19.

SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
Michigan is 3-1 in 2026 after opening the year at the College Baseball Series in Surprise, Arizona, from February 13-16. The Wolverines topped then-No. 12 Oregon State, Stanford and No. 24 Arizona before a 5-4, 10-inning loss to now-No. 11 Oregon State on Monday. Michigan is ranked No. 19 in this week’s rankings by The Athletic and is receiving votes by the NCBWA.

SERIES HISTORY VS. AUBURN
FSU owns a 77-42 all-time record against Auburn, going 49-22 at home, 27-19 on the road and 1-1 at a neutral site. Frequent NCAA Regional and Super Regional opponents, the Seminoles and Tigers last squared off in the 2022 NCAA Regional at Auburn, a 21-7 loss. Florida State won two before that, in the 2017 NCAA Tallahassee Regional, and the Noles took seven in a row from 2006-09. The first game was held in 1954, and both neutral-site meetings were in Gastonia, North Carolina, in the NCAA Regionals in 1963 and 1967.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
No. 9 Auburn comes to Arlington for its first roadtrip of the season with a 3-1 record. The Tigers swept Youngstown State on opening weekend before they suffered an 8-0 loss to Cincinnati on Tuesday night. D1Baseball has AU No. 9 in its latest poll, while Auburn is No. 5 by Baseball America and The Athletic, No. 7 according to the NCBWA and No. 10 in Perfect Game’s top-25.

SERIES HISTORY VS. NEBRASKA
The Seminoles and Huskers have played once before, also at an MLB ballpark. That was a 2004 matchup at the Metrodome where FSU posted a 5-3 win on March 5.

SCOUTING THE HUSKERS
Nebraska is 3-1 on the year after opening the campaign with wins over UConn, Northeastern and Grand Canyon and a loss to Stanford from February 13-16 at the MLB Desert Invitational in Scottsdale, Arizona. NU is receiving votes in this week’s NCBWA poll.

LAST TIME OUT: IN-STATE ROAD WIN
Florida State defeated Jacksonville 13-3 in eight innings on Tuesday night in Jacksonville, Florida, in the team’s first road and midweek game of the year. The Seminoles scored their 13 runs on 11 hits and took advantage of 10 walks and five JU errors.

After a scoreless opening three innings, FSU scored in every other inning, including three in the fourth, six in the sixth and two in the seventh. Three players had multiple hits, three drove in multiple runs and four scored multiple runs. Junior left fielder Brayden Dowd registered two hits, two RBI and two runs scored at the top of the lineup.

On the mound, redshirt sophomore left-hander Payton Manca made his season debut and earned the win. In 3.0 innings, he did not allow a run on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Junior right-hander John Abraham followed Manca with 2.0 shutout innings of his own and held the Dolphins to one hit and no walks with three strikeouts.
