Doris Lemngole Triumphant in Boston, Closes Tide’s Multi-Meet Weekend
BOSTON – Reigning Bowerman winner Doris Lemngole put a stamp on Alabama track and field’s multi-meet weekend with an event title in the women’s 5,000-meter invite. Running at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Lemngole’s PR of 14:51.21 shortened the Alabama school record and kept her at No. 2 all-time in NCAA history.
Down in Clemson, S.C., Crimson Tide duo Katelyn Adel (women’s high jump, second place) and Miracle Ailes (women’s high jump invite, second place) emphasized day two’s field results as Adel cleared an indoor PR of 1.74m (5-8.50) and Ailes reached 1.81m (5-11.25). On the track, Alabama’s 4×400-meter relay contingent of Mouatez Sikiou, Tarsis Orogot, David Thid and Samuel Ogazi clocked the program’s second-fastest time ever in the event, running a 3:02.29 for second place.
Before the day was done, Gabriella Hernandez clocked a top-10 time in the women’s 800m (ninth, 2:09.37) at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., as the Tide’s distance medley relay contingent of Jackson Harris, Andrew Sirras, Colvin Bussey and Evan Simpson took the event title behind a 9:47.11 showing.
“This was a strong weekend for us across all three meets. We saw good efforts from several groups, including school-record performances from Dismus and Doris [in Boston], and had athletes execute well in different competitive environments, which sets us up well heading into the final stretch before SECs. Our attention now turns to sharpening things up and making sure we’re prepared to compete at our best come championship competition.”
