Split Day Lofts Gators to New Heights
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Florida Gators Track and Field completed day one of the Tyson Invitational and David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday evening, highlighted by 13 personal records and five new program bests.
HIGHLIGHTS – Tyson Invitational
Sprints
Gabrielle Matthews led the way in the women’s 60m dash, capturing first place overall with a personal record of 7.19, elevating her from No. 7 to No. 5 on the program’s all-time performance list.
Wanya McCoy found his way into the 60m finals where he placed fifth overall with a 6.64 as Justin Braun led the Gators in the men’s 400m, placing third amongst all competitors with a 45.82.
Jumps
Temoso Masikane led the Gators in the men’s long jump, winning the event with a leap of 8.11m / 26’7.25″. His second attempt held the top spot through the final round, moving him to No. 5 on the program’s all-time list. Luke Stradley joined Masikane on the podium, finishing third overall with a personal best 7.75m / 25’5.25″.
HIGHLIGHTS – David Hemery Valentine Invitational
Four Gators completed their run in Boston, as the men’s competition came to a wrap Friday night.
Oussama Allaoui delivered a historic performance in the mile, posting a personal best time of 3:57.47 to move to No. 3 on the program’s all time performance list. Competing in just his second indoor meet of the season, the freshman made a significant leap in the record books after previously sitting at No. 8.
Riley Smith also etched his name near the top of the record books, recording a personal best 7:50.47 in the men’s 3000m to claim the No. 2 spot on the program’s all time list. A new Gator also made his debut in Geofrey Ronoh, who crossed the finish line in 8:17.42 in the men’s 3000m.
In the men’s 5000m, Jonathan Leon secured a personal best time of 13:59.15, earning the No. 4 position on the program’s all time performance list with his sub-14 minute effort.
