No. 1 Georgia Wins Back-to-Back ITA Indoor Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. — No. 1 Georgia women’s tennis (5-1, 0-0 SEC) earned its ninth national championship and sixth national indoor title in program history after knocking off No. 10 Ohio State (5-1, 0-0 BIG), 4-3, in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship final at the Combe Tennis Center on Tuesday powered by clutch performances in doubles and a dramatic three-set clincher from a freshman Deniz Dilek.

  • In three seasons as head coach, Drake’s teams have been at least a finalist (runner-up or better) in four of the five national championship events they have competed in. This marks his third national championship and sixth overall title (SEC and national) since becoming head coach in 2024.
  • The Bulldogs secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Anastasiia Lopata and Patricija Paukstyte opened doubles play with a 6-1 win over No. 55 Luciana Perry and Flora Johnson, before Deniz Dilek and Aysegul Mert clinched the point with a 6-4 victory against No. 13 Hephzibah Oluwadare and Teah Chavez.
  • The singles session was led by No. 33 Anastasiia Gureva on court four who gave Georgia its first singles point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 52 Nao Nishino.
  • No. 42 Sofia Rojas added another point on court six, defeating Hephzibah Oluwadare, 7-6 (3), 6-4.
  • Freshman No. 23 Dilek sealed the championship on court three, rallying past Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev, 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7). Dilek trailed 5-0 in the deciding tiebreak before mounting a remarkable comeback to clinch the title.
  • Ohio State earned its three points with victories on the remaining courts.
  • No. 3 Luciana Perry edged No. 74 Lopata, 7-6 (4), 6-4, on court one.
  • No. 13 Teah Chavez topped No. 4 \ Mert, 7-5, 6-4, on court two.
  • Audrey Spencer defeated Emma Dong, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7), on court five.
