No. 7 Softball Hosts Liberty on Tuesday Night

TALLAHASSEE – The No. 7 Florida State softball team (5-0) hosts Liberty (0-5) on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at JoAnne Graf Field. The game can be seen on ACCNX with Shawn Davison (Play by Play) and Alex Powers (Color) on the call. 

Liberty comes into Tuesday’s matchup 0-5 after losing to No.  Tennessee, No. 9 Clemson, Missouri, No. 5 Oregon and Notre Dame at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater. Liberty is coming off a magical postseason where it defeated No. 1 Texas A&M in the College Station Regional. Liberty ultimately fell to Oregon in the Super Regionals. 

JoAnne Graf Classic Notes

  • Jazzy Francik threw a no-hitter in the season opener against Samford on Feb. 5. It was just the second time a FSU pitcher has thrown a no-hitter. Julie Larsen threw a no-hitter on opening day against West Florida in 1986.
  • Jaysoni Beachum ended her weekend hitting .538 with 6 RBI to go along with .684 on base percentage. 
  • Isa Torres went 3-for-3 today with two singles and a double. Torres had a hit in all five games this week and finished the week with a .588 average. 
  • In the final two games of the JoAnne Graf Classic, Torres was a perfect 6-for-6.
  • FSU’s freshmen hitters of Marin Heller, Makenna Sturgis, Anna Hinde and Hayley Griggs combined to hit .327 with two home runs and 8 RBI. In the circle, Marlee Gaskell and Bella Dimitrijevic combined to throw 9 innings and allowed just three runs while striking out 13 batters and walking just three. 
  • Nine out of the 11 players who have had a plate appearance this season have recorded a RBI. 
  • Through five games, FSU’s starting pitchers have thrown 20 innings, allowed 1 earned run on seven hits while striking out 25 batters compared to just five walks. 
  • FSU’s pitching staff posted a 1.58 ERA and 38 strikeouts compared to eight walks. 
  • FSU outscored its opponents this week 36-7 over the course of five games. 
  • FSU improved to 34-5 all-time in the JoAnne Graf Classic.
  • FSU’s 5-0 start is its best start since 2022.

 
Season Notes

  • FSU was picked to win the ACC for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
  • FSU is ranked No. 8 in the NFCA/GoRout Top 25 poll and No. 7 in the USA Softball/ESPN.com Top 25 Poll. 
  • Head Coach Lonni Alameda is in her 18th season at Florida State and 23rd season as a Division I head coach. 
  • FSU has won a combined 37 ACC Tournament and Regular Season Championships which is the most conference titles in the entire country. 
  • FSU had an ACC-leading five players on the Preseason All-ACC Team. Jaysoni Beachum, Ashtyn Danley, Jazzy Francik, Kennedy Harp and Isa Torres all made the Preseason All-ACC Team. No other ACC program had more than three selections. 
  • FSU returns two NFCA All-Americans from 2025 in Isa Torres (First Team) and Kennedy Harp (Second Team).
  • FSU returns four All-ACC players from 2025 in Isa Torres, Ashtyn Danley, Jazzy Francik and Kennedy Harp
  • FSU is one of two programs (FSU and Virginia) to not have a transfer on its roster. 
  • FSU brings in nine true freshmen which was ranked the No. 3 overall class in the country by On3. Bella Ruggiero is also a redshirt freshman who was ranked the No. 13 overall player in the 2023 class by On3.
  • FSU returns the top two pitchers in the ACC as Jazzy Francik (1.51) and Ashtyn Danley (1.60) had the two lowest ERA’s in the ACC last season. 
  • Isa Torres broke the school record last season for batting average as the sophomore hit .436 in 2025.
