KEY QUOTES:
Head Coach Jamie Hunt
“It was an incredible team effort; it was a challenging week for us. There was me personally dealing with some heavy things; we had the flu that we were dealing with that was running through all the guys. So, I was not perfect preparation leading up to this match, but I am so proud of Bruno and Bryce and the unbelievable leadership job they did coaching this week, navigating what we had to deal with. Then, I’m proud of our guys, they weren’t feeling their best, but they came out here and they knew if they competed like dogs and fought for every single point. Whether they had 60% in the tank, 80% or 100%, we were going to have a great chance. And we had an incredible atmosphere. Shoutout to the Dawg Nation for the 750 people that were here. Just an incredible atmosphere and our guys really embraced that and stepped up to the challenge of a really good team. So, couldn’t be more proud of the guys; their resiliency all week and how they played as a team.”
Derrick Chen
On winning the doubles point…
“We started really well in doubles, especially on [courts] two and three. [Court] one kind of got down on an early break, but they turned it around and were really tough there and were able to get the first point on the board for the Dawgs. Then Gabriele [Vulpitta] and Will [Jansen] were able to close it out. Me and Noah [Johnston] were right there as well, so we were having a great performance for doubles.”
On the atmosphere for the first home match of the spring season…
“It was unbelievable. This is my fifth year in college tennis. I’ve always seen videos of Georgia and the crowds and always dreamt of playing in front of them. To be playing and to clinch, it was just really special.”
