Last Updated: February 6, 2026By

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State soccer head coach Brian Pensky has named Tyrone Marshall as the program’s newest assistant coach.

Marshall comes to FSU with extensive experience developing players at the professional level, having spent the last 10 years with MLS clubs. With FC Cincinnati from 2021-25, Marshall served as head coach of FC Cincinnati 2 in MLS Next Pro from 2022-25 and of their U-19 side in 2021. He also was interim head coach of Cincinnati’s MLS squad in 2021 and an assistant coach for Real Salt Lake’s MLS club from 2015-20.

“Ty will be a valuable addition to our staff,” Pensky said. “He’s lived the soccer life that all of our players strive for – having had a lengthy and successful career at the club and international levels. And Ty knows what winning looks like, having won more than 10 trophies throughout his career. It was clear to me in this process how well Ty has connected with the players he’s coached over the last 10-plus years. His ability to reach and teach his players makes Ty a great fit for our program. We are elated to have Ty, his wife Cari, and their five children joining the Seminole family.”

“I am excited to join the coaching staff at Florida State University and contribute to a program defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence,” Marshall said. “I look forward to working alongside coach Pensky and the coaching staff, together we will continue to empower these elite student-athletes to reach their highest potential while competing for championships on the national stage.”

The 2024 MLS Next Pro Coach of the Year, Marshall led his Cincinnati 2 side to back-to-back playoff appearances in 2024 and 2025. His 2024 team went 16-8-4 for 54 points, third-best in the league. Tabbed to lead Cincinnati’s first-ever MLS Next Pro team, Marshall helped numerous players get promoted and sign contracts with the first team in MLS. He also saw several of his players collect All-Star accolades.

In his first season in Cincinnati, 2021, Marshall led the team’s U-19 Academy side to an undefeated regular season and a playoff berth. Three players signed MLS Next Pro deals. Marshall concluded his first year with Cincinnati FC as interim head coach in MLS, beginning in September.

While leading FC Cincinnati’s MLS Next Pro and U-19 teams, Marshall’s player development plan was based on a first team environment and in collaboration with management and the front office across the club. He led game strategy, squad selection and training sessions in addition to video analysis and scouting.

Prior to his time in Cincinnati, Marshall was an assistant coach for Real Salt Lake’s MLS team from 2015-20. He helped the team make the MLS Cup Playoffs in three of his five seasons and earn a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup twice.

In 2014, Marshall served as head coach of the River City Rovers in the team’s inaugural season.

Marshall currently has his USSF Pro License and the FFF Elite Formation Coaching License.

As a player, Marshall played for six MLS clubs from 1998-2012 after he was selected 11th overall in the 1998 MLS Draft by the Colorado Rapids. He appeared in 349 career games throughout his 15-year career and scored 20 goals. He won two MLS Cups with the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2002 and 2005 and back-to-back Supporters’ Shields, with the Miami Fusion in 2001 and the Galaxy in 2002. Marshall added three U.S. Open Cup titles.

Collegiately, Marshall won an NAIA national title at Lindsey Wilson University before transferring to FIU and leading the Panthers to their first and only national championship game appearance. He graduated from Lindsey Wilson with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and also served as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater.

From Kingston, Jamaica, Marshall made 83 appearances for the Jamaican National Team. He was a captain in 2010 and won the Caribbean Cup.

Marshall and his wife, Cari, have five children, three sons and two daughters.
