No. 24/22 Alabama Falls at No. 6/5 LSU
BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 24/22 Alabama women’s basketball team fell to No. 6/5 LSU, 103-63, in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Jessica Timmons and Karly Weathers led the Crimson Tide (19-4, 5-4 SEC) in scoring, finishing with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Naomi Jones paced Alabama with five rebounds and a team-high four blocks as she has collected at least one blocked shot in at least eight of the last nine contests.
LSU (20-6, 6-2 SEC) was led by Jada Richard who had 16 points, while Zakiyah Johnson grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
“Credit to LSU. Bob Starkey hugged my neck and said, ‘We haven’t played that well all year’, so you know just credit to them – they were phenomenal today. We hit a buzz saw, and we didn’t have a response for it after the first quarter so we’re going to try to flush it. We want our players to focus on all the positives and it’s just short-term memory in this league. We certainly have a lot we can take away from today. I think five out of our next seven games are teams ranked above us, so we can either do something about a day like today or we can continue to allow it to happen. Just credit to LSU, I think the worst thing you can do is walk in and talk about everything you didn’t do well and sometimes you just hit a buzz saw. I thought their back court really dominated us today.”
