UGA Athletics Board Convenes for Winter Meeting

ATHENS, Ga. — A record-setting term GPA, an impressive fall athletics season and updates to on-going facility projects, highlighted remarks from J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks at Friday’s board meeting, which was held at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Hotel. 

In addition to a report from Brooks, faculty athletics representative Professor David Shipley gave a glowing academic report. Below are highlights from Friday’s meeting. 

Highlights of Brooks’ remarks

* Bulldog student-athletes earned a cumulative 3.30 GPA during the Fall 2025 academic season, marking the highest all-sports term GPA in program history. 

* 75 percent of student-athletes finished with a B or above average in the fall. In all, 31 student-athletes graduated Fall 2025. 

* The Georgia Bulldog Club’s capital campaign has raised $249 million towards its $300 million goal. Since 2016, the Magill Society has raised $412 million. 

* This past fall, soccer made its school record fourth-straight NCAA tournament appearance, football earned the SEC title for the second-straight year for the first time since 1980 and men’s cross country garnered its first top 25 finish at NCAAs since 2012. 

* Former Georgia greats Matthew Stafford and James Cook just completed successful NFL seasons. Stafford was the league’s leading passer, while Cook earned the 2025 rushing title for most rushing yards in the regular season. 

* A total of 10 Georgia teams currently in competition are ranked in the top 25 of their sport’s respective rankings. 

* Georgia is set to host the Live Between the Hedges concert, featuring Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Zach Top and Lauren Alaina, is scheduled for April 25, 2026. 

* The new football practice complex expansion is scheduled to be completed July 2027.

* A dedication ceremony for the new track and field complex off South Milledge is set for Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. 

* During Brooks’ five-year tenure as athletics director, Georgia has earned seven team national championships, 11 SEC titles and 33 individual crowns. 

Highlights of Prof. Shipley’s remarks

* With a 3.52 GPA this past fall, men’s tennis boasted the highest GPA among men’s programs at UGA; Gymnastics and women’s tennis each recorded a 3.67 for the highest GPA among  women’s teams. 

* 75.4 percent of student-athletes finished with a 3.0 GPA or higher, while 41 student-athletes boasted a 4.0 in the fall.

* 94 UGA student-athletes landed on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
