TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Athletics Department will celebrate the 40th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a recognition that begins Friday, Jan. 30 and concludes on the day of the celebration – Wednesday, Feb. 4.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is an occasion dedicated to honoring the achievements of female athletes, coaches and leaders and highlights the power of sports to unlock the limitless potential of women and girls.

As part of Alabama Athletics’ celebration of NGWSD, the Crimson Tide Foundation has set a goal to raise $50,000 for the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund – the annual scholarship fund for Alabama Athletics.

Alumna Zelia Baugh ’92 will match dollar-for-dollar the first $25,000 raised for the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund between Jan. 30-Feb. 4.

“Sports are a powerful catalyst for helping women and girls maximize their potential,” Baugh said. “Many deserving student-athletes would not be able to continue their playing careers and pursue higher education without an athletics scholarship. I encourage all the Crimson Tide faithful to join me in supporting the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund, so that together we can create opportunities for the best and brightest student-athletes to compete for championships while earning a degree from The University of Alabama.”
