CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Florida State women’s basketball team (5-12, 0-5 ACC)  fell to Miami (11-6, 3-3 ACC) by a final score of 89-73 on Sunday at the Watsco Center.

Junior guard Sole Williams finished with a team-leading 19 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Amaya Bonner trailed with 13 points while recording a block and a steal. Sophomore guard Tatum Greene was the last Seminole in double figures with 10 points while also tying her career best in steals with four. Greene and graduate guard Jasmine Shavers tied for a team best eight rebounds.

Florida State jumped to an early lead thanks to two triples from Risch in the first five minutes of play with help from Bonner and Kubek driving the paint. Miami put up a response late, but the Seminoles wouldn’t relent the lead and pushed ahead 19-18 at the end of the first quarter.

The Hurricanes edged ahead early in the second quarter, but pressure in the paint from the Seminoles forced two more lead changes. After four ties throughout the frame, Miami would eventually pull away in the final three minutes of the half. A layup and free throw by Williams made it a one possession game as Florida State trailed 37-35 at halftime.

Williams led the first half effort with nine points and two assists while Bonner and Risch followed with six points each. Kubek earned five rebounds while also leading the team with two blocks.

The game teetered back-and-forth as 12 lead changes defined the first eight minutes of the third quarter. Two three-pointers from Greene as well as one from Shavers challenged the Hurricanes early, yet Miami converted on crucial turnovers in the final minutes. Florida State trailed 66-56 entering the last quarter.

Florida State continued to push the paint, but the effort would fall short. Both teams would go scoreless in the final three minutes of play as the game finished 89-73 in favor of the Hurricanes.

Florida State will continue ACC play on Thursday, Jan. 15 by facing Pittsburgh at the Petersen Events Center. The game will air on the ACC Network Extra (ACCNX) at 6 p.m.
