Brett Thorson Selected As Ray Guy Award Finalist
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia’s Brett Thorson is one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award given to the country’s best punter, according to an announcement from the Augusta Sports Council Tuesday.
Thorson, a native of Melbourne, Australia, joins Troy’s Evan Crenshaw and Baylor’s Palmer Williams as the three finalists. Thorson was also a finalist in 2024 and Jake Camarda was the last Bulldog finalist before Thorson in 2020. Former Georgia All-American Drew Butler won the 2009 honor.
Thorson, a native of Melbourne, Australia, has averaged 44.5 yards on 31 punts this year, forcing 15 fair catches and dropping 15 within the 20 yard line. He has nine balls that have traveled 50 or more yards, including a 66 yarder in the fifth consecutive win over Florida. Georgia is ranked 10th nationally in Net Punting at 42.8 as opponents have returned three of Thorson’s punts for a combined 19 yards.
The No. 4 Bulldogs (10-1) make the short trip to Atlanta to face No. 16 Georgia Tech (9-2) in Mercedes-Benz Stadium during the Invesco QQQ Atlanta Gridiron Classic on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 and the game will be televised by ABC.
