Florida’s Run at NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles & Doubles Championships Comes to an End

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Gators’ run at the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Singles & Doubles Championship came to an end Wednesday.

On the singles side, Gabia Paskauskas, advanced to the Round of 32, Tuesday, with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory over Stanford’s Alyssa Ahn. Wednesday afternoon, she wasn’t as fortunate, dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to NC State’s Mia Slama. 

On the doubles side of the ledger, Xinyi Nong and Nikola Daubnerova squared off against Virginia’s Melodie Collard and Vivian Yang in an evening match Wednesday. However, it was the Cavaliers taking home the 6-4, 6-3 win ending the Gators championship aspirations.

Florida begins its indoor season at the 18th annual ITA Kickoff Weekend in Raleigh, N.C., January 23-26. In all, 56 teams will take part in Kickoff Weekend at 14 different sites. Joining the 45th ranked Gators are the host No. 12 Wolfpack, No. 34 Ole Miss, and No. 54 Boise State. Florida takes on the Rebels on Sunday, January 25, and if the Gators win, they take on the victor of the NC State vs. Boise State matchup.

Teams are then reseeded after the first two rounds of play. The ITA National Team Indoor Championships are slated for Feb. 6-10 in Chicago.
