Schiessl, Miguel Conclude NCAA Individual Championship
On Tuesday, Miguel fell in straight sets to Kentucky’s Eli Stephenson, 2-6, 0-6, in the opening round of the NCAA Singles Championship. Stephenson took an early surge that put Miguel in a 5-0 deficit and was halted by momentum in saving set points and earning his lone break of the match. Miguel eventually dropped the first set 2-6.
Miguel regrouped in the second frame, as Stephenson continued to apply pressure to break early and extend his lead. Despite Miguel’s efforts to battle through multiple deciding points, he was unable to slow the Wildcat’s rhythm and fell in his first collegiate NCAA championship.
In Wednesday’s doubles action, Miguel and Schiessl fell to Ohio State’s Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico in a two-set match. The first set was tightly contested, with both teams trading games until Filin and Carpico edged out a 7-6 tiebreak victory. Miguel and Schiessl recollected in the second set, but a late break gave the Buckeyes a 7-5 win.
