No. 10 Softball Takes Down South Alabama, 8-4, in Midweek Matchup
TALLAHASSEE — The No.10 Florida State Seminoles defeated South Alabama 8-4 on Wednesday night at JoAnne Graf Field. Florida State moved to 22-4 while South Alabama fell to 16-11. The Seminoles now move to 9-5 against the Jaguars.
Marlee Gaskell started the game for the Noles, pitching two innings while allowing five hits and one earned run, with one strikeout. Bella Dimitrijevic took over in relief, delivering three innings, striking out five batters and walking two, earning her the win and moving her to 5-1 on the season. Jazzy Francik closed out the game in the seventh and striking out both batters she faced.
Florida State opened the game with a strong start as Isa Torres hit a leadoff homer to deep left field to put the Noles up 1-0 after one.
In the third inning, the Seminoles extended their lead significantly. Bella Ruggiero singled up the middle, driving in Torres. Following this, Kennedy Harp hit a three-run homer to deep right field to put the Noles up 5-2.
The fourth inning saw the Noles adding to their lead with a single from Beachum that scored Torres to make it 6-2.
In the sixth inning, FSU capitalized on errors by South Alabama. Hayley Griggs scored on a throwing error, and Shelby McKenzie reached on an error, allowing another run to score, extending the lead for the Seminoles to 8-3.
South Alabama managed to score one more run in the seventh inning, but FSU secured the win with a final score of 8-4.
The Seminoles will open ACC play on Friday evening against Syracuse at 6 p.m. on ACCNX.

- Isa Torres opened the game with a leadoff home run, marking it her third home run of the season. It was the first time FSU has led off the game with a home run since Torres hit a leadoff home run in the NCAA Regional against Auburn on May 18, 2025.
- Torres went 3-for-3 tonight with a RBI. Since returning from injury, Torres is 18-for-21 (.857) and is hitting .615 this season
- Jaysoni Beachum added two RBI to move her to 30 on the season, leading the Seminoles in that metric.
- Bella Ruggiero hit a RBI single in the third inning and has now recorded a RBI in her last five games.
