Baseball Downs Troy 7-3 on Tuesday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama baseball (15-3) topped Troy (6-10) at Sewell-Thomas Stadium on Tuesday, as the Crimson Tide bested the Trojans 7-3 to extend its winning streak to six consecutive games.
Jason Torres’ lone knock was a big one, clubbing a solo home run as part of a three-run 2nd. The Tide third baseman added a sacrifice fly and a walk to encompass his 1-for-2 line. Justin Lebron was 2-for-4 with two RBI, two stolen bases and a hit-by-pitch, while John Lemm also collected multiple hits, finishing 2-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI. Bryce Fowler and Luke Vaughn were responsible for one RBI each, as both men provided sacrifice flies.
Bobby Alcock (2-0) continued his consistent run of form to begin the 2026 season, making his second midweek start on Tuesday. The right-hander allowed just one earned run over 3.0 innings, giving up four hits and just one walk while adding four strikeouts. Evan Steckmesser retired seven of the eight batters he faced across 2.0 shutout innings, totaling two strikeouts. Matthew Heiberger worked around two walks over 1.2 scoreless frames with two strikeouts, while Hagan Banks picked up a strikeout in a clean 9th. The Tide pitching staff surrendered just five hits in the win with the Alabama defense turning two double plays.
“Good win. We didn’t just go wear it out offensively, but we were really timely with our hitting which was good. We were on base for free 12 times tonight, we pride ourselves on controlling the strike zone, and we did it. Runners in scoring position with less than two outs, we executed at a pretty high level. We just kept tacking on, and when you get a big lead, you don’t have to put up a crooked number, you just have to keep scoring and the guys did that. (Alcock) gave us a great start, just really good stuff out of the gate there. I thought all the guys threw the ball well. (Troy) hasn’t hit their stride yet but there’s good players on that team and that team is going to get going. Happy for the boys, we’ll have a good day of work tomorrow and turn our attention to Kentucky this weekend.”
How It Happened
- B1 | The Tide opened the scoring after Bryce Fowler and Justin Lebron were both plunked, putting two men on. Both men succeeded in a double steal, leading to Luke Vaughn’s one-out sacrifice fly. (1-0, Alabama)
- B2 | Jason Torres led off the inning with a solo homer to left. After the home run, Justin Osterhouse, Peyton Steele and Brennan Holt all drew walks, loading the bases with nobody out. After a fielder’s choice saw a potential run erased at home plate, Lebron sent a two-run single past the Troy shortstop. (4-0, Alabama)
- T3 | With two outs, Troy managed a pair of back-to-back singles before a double down the left field line brought in a run. However, the Tide executed a 7-6-2 relay to throw out a potential second run. (4-1, Alabama)
- B5 | With one out, Vaughn worked a free pass with Lemm moving him to third after a double into left. Torres provided the Tide’s second sacrifice fly with a flyball to left. (5-1, Alabama)
- T6 | The Trojans cut into the lead after the leadoff man reached as the result of an error. With one out, Jimmy Janicki launched a two-run home run to left. (5-3, Alabama)
- B6 | The Tide got one of the two runs back, with Steele getting plunked to open the frame. He later reached third after a throwing error by the pitcher on an attempted pickoff and a passed ball, leading to Fowler’s sacrifice fly to center. (6-3, Alabama)
- B7 | Brady Neal was hit by a pitch to start the Tide’s half of the 7th before Lemm bounced a double over the first baseman, allowing Neal to score from first. (7-3, Alabama)
