Baseball America Tabs Lawson to National Team of the Week
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida sophomore Brendan Lawson was selected as the starting shortstop on Baseball America’s National Team of the Week on Tuesday morning.
Each week of the 2026 regular season, Baseball America is recognizing the top performances in the country with its National College Team of the Week, containing one player at every position, including the top-performing two-way player and four pitchers.
As the first Gator to earn mention on Baseball America’s weekly list this season, Lawson went 5-for-17 last week with a .294/.455/1.118 batting line. All five of his hits went for extra bases, highlighted by four home runs and one triple. The Canadian infielder started all five games for the Orange & Blue, totaling five runs scored, four RBI and four walks.
Recording his first-career, multi-homer game in Sunday’s walk-off win over High Point, Lawson now boasts a team-high eight home runs and 25 RBI on the season. Also leading the Gators in OPS (1.566), batting average (.418), on-base percentage (.584) and slugging percentage (.982), Lawson has reached base in all 17 games and sits top-25 nationally in slugging (10th), homers (12th), OBP (17th) and RBI (23rd).
Lawson and the No. 23 Gators (14-3) are back in action at home on Tuesday night against in-state rival No. 20 Florida State (13-2). First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network+.
