Men’s Basketball Gathers SEC Awards Haul
On the heels of a 16-2 conference record and the Southeastern Conference regular season championship, Florida men’s basketball earned an array of conference honors with three All-SEC recognitions and four individual league honors.
The Gators had a league-best three players on All-SEC teams, as Thomas Haugh picked up first-team honors, Rueben Chinyelu second-team and Alex Condon third-team. Todd Golden earned SEC Coach of the Year honors, and Chinyelu added both SEC Defensive Player of the Year and SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition while Urban Klavžar garnered SEC Sixth-Man of the Year accolades. Florida had three players honored on the coaches’ All-SEC team for the first time since 2014.
The Gators cleared the SEC field by three games, just the second time in the last decade the SEC has seen that margin in the conference race (UK, 2020). In the process, Golden became just the third coach in SEC history to post 100 wins through his first four seasons at an SEC school (John Calipari, Tubby Smith). The Gators posted a +17.0 scoring margin in league play, the second-highest by any team this century (Florida, +17.6, 2012-13).
Haugh earns his first career SEC postseason honors with the first-team nod. Haugh leads the Gators in scoring at 17.2 points per game and has 13 games this season with 20+ points. The New Oxford, Pa., native averaged 17.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in SEC play. He is the fourth different player to earn first-team All-SEC honors in four seasons under Golden, joining Walter Clayton Jr. (2025), Zyon Pullin (2024) and Colin Castleton (2023).
Chinyelu becomes the second player in SEC history to earn both SEC Defensive Player of the Year and SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition, along with Gator great Patric Young (2014). In the classroom, Chinyelu holds a 3.48 GPA as a sociology major. He has established himself as a force not only in the middle of the Gators’ elite defense, but capable of slowing down opponents of any size or speed. From Enugwu-Agidi, Nigeria, Chinyelu is the NCAA’s top rebounder (11.7 rpg) and on pace to be the first Gator in 50 years to post a double-figure rebounding average. He rebounded at an even higher rate in league play, pulling down 12.3 boards per game.
Out of Perth, Australia, Condon has picked up SEC postseason honors every year of his collegiate career. He earned third-team All-SEC honors for the second straight year after earning All-Freshman honors in 2024. Condon’s 15.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in league play both ranked second on the team. He is also one of two major conference players averaging at least 14 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game overall this season (Cameron Boozer, Duke).
Klavžar has been an invaluable contributor sparking Florida’s offense off the bench to the tune of 10.7 points per game and a .439 3-point percentage in SEC play. During the Gators’ 11-game win streak to close out the regular season, the Domzale, Slovenia, native sniped at an even hotter pace hitting 27 of 55 long-range attempts (.491).
The Gators next head to Nashville, where they hold the top seed in the SEC Tournament. Florida opens play in the quarterfinal round at 1 p.m. Eastern on Friday, facing either Missouri, Kentucky or LSU.
