Wiggins Scores 31 to Lead Florida State over SMU, 91-78, in Final Game of ACC Regular Season
TALLAHASSEE – Senior Chauncey Wiggins scored 31 points to lead four Seminoles in double-figures for the Florida State men’s basketball team in its 91-78 victory against the SMU Mustangs in the Donald L. Tucker Center. Wiggins’ 31 points set a new career-high, eclipsing his previous high of 23 points, which he set against Stanford on January 31, 2026. Wiggins became the 15th player in program history to score 31 or more points in an ACC game.
Florida State improved to 17-14 overall and 10-8 in the ACC. SMU fell to 19-12 and 8-10 in ACC play.
Wiggins scored 16 of his 31 points in the first half. His 16 first-half points marked the most points he has scored in a half during his career. He finished the game shooting six for eight from behind the arc. His six made 3-point field goals set a new career-high, eclipsing his previous record of five, which he set against Notre Dame on February 7, 2026.
Senior Robert McCray V scored 17 points and recorded 12 assists. His 17 points and 12 assists marked his third double-double of the season and first in ACC play. His 12 assists also marked the fifth time he has recorded double-digit assists in a game. McCray V is the only player in program history to record double-digit assists five times in one season and during their career.
Florida State made 16 3-point field goals. Their 16 3-point field goals are tied for the sixth most in a game in program history. Florida State’s 16 made 3-point field goals are tied for the second most made in an ACC game in school history. The last time a Florida State team made 16 3-point field goals in an ACC game was on January 14, 2014, against Maryland.
The Seminoles rode another scorching second half to their 10th ACC victory this season. Florida State shot .526 percent from the field and .583 percent (10-18) from behind the 3-point line in the second half.
Florida State forced the Mustangs into 14 turnovers. Of those 14 turnovers, 10 of them were Florida State steals. The Seminoles would score 23 points off those 14 turnovers.
Wiggins opened the game with a made 3-point basket.
The Seminoles opened the game scoring eight of the first 10 points and led 8-2 at the 16:61 mark. The Mustangs tied the game at 16-16 at the 9:01 mark and at 18-18 at the 7:52 mark before an 8-0 run by the Seminoles. The run was punctuated by made 3-point shots from McCray V and Wiggins, to give Florida State a 26-18 lead with 5:26 remaining.
The Seminoles extended their lead to 10, 31-21, at the 3:48 mark of the first half. Over the next two minutes, Florida State outscored the Mustangs to take a 41-23 lead with just over a minute remaining in the half.
Florida State led SMU 45-27 at halftime.
The Seminoles opened the second half outscoring the Mustangs 6-2 to take a 22-point, 51-29 lead. The 22-point lead is the third-largest lead Florida State has had in any ACC game this season.
Kobe MaGee sealed the game with a made 3-point shot at the 1:20 mark of the second half. MaGee finished with 10 points and three made 3-point shots. He has scored double-figures 12 times this season and has made three or more 3-point shots in nine games.
Lajae Jones rounds out the double-digit scorers for Florida State as he finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and a season-high four steals. He has finished in double figures for the second consecutive game and 21 times this season.
All four Seminoles who finished with double-figures were honored on Senior Day.
Florida State plays in the ACC Tournament this week, with the bracket released following Saturday’s games.
