Alabama in Third Place After Opening Round of The Hayt

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – The No. 15 Alabama men’s golf team finished the opening round of The Hayt on Saturday afternoon with a team score of 9-under par 279. As a result, the Crimson Tide will enter Sunday’s second round action in a tie for third overall. 

Round One Highlights

  • The Crimson Tide was led by Nick Gross, who is in a tie for second place after he ended the day with three consecutive birdies to finish round one at 5-under par 67
  • Brycen Jones is just one shot back and in seventh overall at 4-under 68 through 18 holes played
  • Both Jonathan Griz and Jack Mitchell ended the day tied for 35th after carding an even par 70
  • William Jennings rounded out the Crimson Tide with a 4-over par 76
  • Connor Brown, who is competing as an individual, is in a tie for 50th overall at 1-over 73
  • No. 6 LSU (-14) leads the 15-team field by two strokes over No. 1 Virginia (-12) 
  • No. 15 Alabama (-9) and No. 2 Auburn (-9) are tied for third overall
  • No. 21 Charlotte (-8) and UCF (-8) rounds out the top five teams
  • In all, this year’s field features eight teams ranked in the top 50 with eight inside the top 25
