FSU Set to Battle No. 23 NC State and No. 4 Wake Forest
TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State men’s tennis team (8-6, 0-2 ACC) returns to the Scott Speicher Tennis Center this weekend for a pair of home matches, hosting No. 23 NC State (10-1, 2-0 ACC) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Seminoles will cap off the first week of March against No. 4 Wake Forest (15-2, 2-0 ACC) on Sunday at noon.
The Seminoles are 28-6 all-time against the Wolfpack and 22-17 against the Demon Deacons. NC State has earned three victories against ranked opponents this season and feature three players ranked in the latest ITA individual rankings. The doubles pair of William Manning and Jules Loroux have recorded ranked wins this season after defeating #96 Sebastian Sec (Princeton) on February 6, and Loroux defeated #27 Nathan Blokhin (Harvard) on February 8.
The reigning national champion, Wake Forest, comes to Tallahassee with a 15-2 overall record and 15 consecutive ACC regular season victories following a perfect run last year. Wake Forest recently defeated No. 28 Clemson and Georgia Tech to open conference play.
In 2024, the Seminoles defeated both teams in consecutive days’ en route to the program’s first-ever ACC championship. FSU swept the No. 3-seeded Wolfpack 4-0 in the ACC quarterfinals before defeating the No. 2-seeded Demon Deacons 4-3 in the ACC semifinals. The Seminoles knocked off the top three seeds in three days to become the lowest-seeded team to win the conference championship.
The newest ITA rankings were released on Tuesday. Azariah Rusher checked in at No. 118 and Luis Felipe Miguel was at No. 106, while Erik Schiessl retained his top 100 ranking at No. 76. Miguel and Schiessl remain in the top-20 doubles rankings at No. 17, while Justin Lyons and Rusher move to No. 79.
