No. 3 Gators finish fifth at Southern Highlands Collegiate
The Gators bounced back from its round two score of 295 (+7) with a final round of 289 (+1) for a 54-hole score of 867 (+3). UF’s four tournament win streak was snapped as the top-5 adds to season finishes of: 10-2-T3-1-1-1-1. No. 1 Virginia edged out No. 2 Auburn for the team title followed by No. 12 Illinois in third and No. 4 Texas in fourth.
Zack Swanwick logged the best finish (T18) in the lineup and the low score in the final round with a 2-under 70. After a bogey on his first hole and a double-bogey on his fourth hole, the sophomore made six birdies to finish the round, including a stretch of four straight from holes 13-16.
Senior Matthew Kress also carded an under par round this afternoon with a 1-under 71. He made back-to-back birdies on holes 15-16 for his 10th under par round this season and 49th of his career. Kress placed T26 along with freshman Trevor Gutschewski.
Rounding out the final three UF golfers competing, featured Jack Turner T30, Parker Sands tied for 37th and Noah Kent T64, who shot his lowest round this week with an even-par 72 today.
The Gators have two more regular season events – Pauma Valley Invitational (March 16-18) & Calusa Cup (April 5-7) – before the SEC Championship from April 22-26 at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga.
