Tucker Clocks An All-Time Collegiate Best In Hep 800m To Clinch Silver

College Station, Texas — Georgia sophomore Maximus Tucker clinched silver in the heptathlon thanks in part to a historic finale in the 800 meters during the second day of the three-day Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas, on Friday.
Tucker’s second-place finish and 10 qualifiers from Friday complements the four scorers, including Jayden Key’s bronze in the men’s long jump, and single qualifier from Thursday.

· Tucker flew to an all-time collegiate best in the heptathlon 800m to clinch his multi-event silver medal with 5,600 points. Tucker’s 2:27.69 is the third fastest hep 1000m in history. His day two was also highlighted by his massive personal best in the pole vault of 4.40m/14-5.25 on his third and final try, which added 731 points to his total.
· Junior Ryan Olree had the fourth-best qualifying time (4:02.21) in the mile prelims. He will race in the final on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. ET.
· Three Lady Bulldogs punched their tickets to Saturday’s final in the 60m. Sophomore Reign Redmond bumped from No. 5 to No. 4 in the school record books with a 7.15 to have the second-fastest qualifying time. Senior Kaila Jackson finished one spot behind Redmond with a season best 7.19. Also in the top five, redshirt freshman Adaejah Hodge won her heat and was fifth overall thanks to her 7.23. The 60m final will be 5:25 p.m. on day three.
· Senior Dejanea Oakley ran the third-fastest 400m time in the qualifying round to win her heat with a 52.07 and will now race in Saturday’s final at 5:40 p.m.
· During the men’s 400m prelims, freshmen Jonathan Simms and Sidi Njie clocked the fifth and sixth best times of the day to advance to Saturday’s final at 5:50 p.m. Simms was second in his heat with a 45.52 while Njie won his group with a 45.67.
· Sophomore Michelle Smith completed her four laps in the 800m prelims with a mammoth personal record to take second. She clocked a 2:04.52 to take second in her heat and overall, moving to third in the school record books with the best time since 2020. The 800m finale comes at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
· Freshman Maddi Cooper came out of the third heat in the 60m hurdles was the race winner and took ninth overall with an 8.10. She will now race in the final on day three at 6:15 p.m.
· In the day’s finale, freshman Le’Ezra Brown matched his school record in the 60m hurdle to advance to the final. He ran a 7.57, which was the fifth-fastest qualifying time. Brown will race in the final at 6:22 p.m.
