TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball took home a pair of shutout wins Friday at the T-Mobile Crimson Classic, defeating St. Thomas, 2-0, and USF, 8-0.

Alabama (16-0) blanked St. Thomas (12-5) in a low-scoring 2-0 shutout to start Friday’s action, with a first inning home run from Alexis Pupillo providing enough offense behind a stellar outing from Jocelyn Briski (5-0) in the circle. The junior threw a complete-game shutout in the circle, striking out a career-best 14 while holding the Tommies to just two hits and two walks.

In the second game of the day, the Tide and USF (16-6) were scoreless until a three-run fourth inning got the Crimson Tide on the board and a five-run fifth ultimately ended it, with Lauren Johnson providing the final blow via a two-run double to make it 8-0 to secure the run-rule victory. Freshman Vic Moten (8-0) took home the win in the circle, fanning seven while allowing just two baserunners to reach.

“We had two really good pitchers throw against us and we knew that they were going to throw great games, so now we need to get used to that. Pupillo hit the off-speed pitch in the first game for an opposite field home run – you don’t see that very often. In the second game, we made a couple of good adjustments against USF’s second pitcher. That last inning is where we exploded and we were waiting for that.”
