No. 4/6 Softball Smashes Records to Open Judi Garman Classic

FULLERTON, Calif. – In a record-breaking first day at the Judi Garman Classic, the No. 4/6 Florida softball team defeated Cal, 8-0, and East Texas A&M, 28-0, improving to 21-0.

Against the Lions, the Gators set new program records for runs in a single inning (17), runs scored in a game (28), hits (26) and RBIs (28).

The Gators offense plated 36 runs with 35 hits, 18 walks and five home runs on the day, while the pitching staff combined for back-to-back shutouts.

Jocelyn Erickson hit three home runs between the two games, going 5-for-5 at the plate with nine RBIs, six runs and three walks.

Taylor Shumaker drove in a team-best 10 RBI, including 8 against the Lions, just one RBI shy of matching the single-game program record,and scored five runs, a new program record.

Keagan Rothrock (9-0) and Leah Stevens (3-0) each picked up wins against Cal and East Texas A&M, respectively.

NOTABLES:

  • Jocelyn Erickson recorded her third multi-home run game of the season and fifth of her career vs. the Golden Bears

    • Her five career multi-home run games include: at Mississippi State (March 29, 2024), vs. New Mexico State (Feb. 22, 2025), vs. Georgia Tech (Feb. 13, 2026), at UNF (Feb. 18, 2026) and Cal (Feb. 26, 2026)
    • Erickson hit her second career grand slam against the Lions

  • With three home runs on Thursday, Erickson has now hit 40 home runs as a Gator and moved into a tie with Charla Echols (2020-23) for ninth-most career home runs in program history

    • Erickson also passed Aja Paculba (2008-11) for 10th-most career RBIs in program history. She currently has 177

  • Erickson has now hit a team-high 10 home runs this season

    • The senior has hit double-digit home runs in each of her three seasons as a Gator. She hit 15 as both a sophomore and a junior

  • Keagan Rothrock threw her second complete-game shutout in a row against Cal, allowing just two hits and a walk with three strikeouts

    • She has now thrown 12 complete-game shutouts in her career

  • Taylor Shumaker set a new career-best of seven RBI against the Lions, including a three-run home run
  • She plated a new career-best and new program single-game record of five runs

  • Cassidy McLellan recorded a career-best five RBIs against the East Texas A&M and hit her fourth home run of the season
  • Madison Walker recorded a career-best four hits against the Lions
  • In her first two career plate appearances, Allison Sparkman tallied her first career hit and drew a walk
  • Olivia Miller went 1-for-2 on the night at the plate, hitting her first career double. It was her first at-bat since recording a single against Colgate as a freshman on Feb. 24, 2024
  • Katelynn Oxley recorded her first two career at-bats against the Lions
  • In her first career plate appearance, Leah Stevens drew a walk
  • The Florida pitching staff allowed just five hits and three walks in back-to-back shutout wins

    • The Gators have now recorded four straight shutouts and a total of 10 shutouts on the season
