ATHENS, GA.—–Eighth-ranked Georgia plays host to Troy Wednesday at Foley Field. First pitch will be at 3:02 p.m. and be available on SECN+ and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.

In the national top 25 polls this week, Georgia (6-1) is ranked as high as No. 8 (Baseball America) and is a consensus top 11 team. The Bulldogs went 4-0 last week including a three-game sweep of Samford, outscoring the Bulldogs from Alabama 45-5. 

Georgia is 1-0 all-time against Sun Belt member Troy, the lone meeting coming during the 2018 NCAA Athens Regional (W, 11-7). Troy (3-4) won two of three at home against Campbell this past weekend.

Wednesday: Justin Byrd (0-0, 0.00 ERA), RHP, RJr., vs. Brock Tapper (0-0, 18.00 ERA), LHP, Sr. 

Byrd, a 6-2, 203-pound right-hander makes his first career start as a Bulldog after two relief outings this year and 18 last year. In 2025, he went 0-0, 3.74 ERA in 21.2 IP with 26 K and 6 BB.

    *Last weekend, Georgia posted a 1.96 ERA with 38 strikeouts and nine walks in a sweep of Samford. Nine pitchers saw action with two of the games ending after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.

    *Overall, Georgia has a 2.84 ERA with 96 strikeouts and 19 walks in 57 innings pitched. Opponents are batting .186.

Georgia Hitters To Watch

            *Junior third baseman Tre Phelps (.522-3-7) has hit safely in every game this year and 21 straight dating to the 2025 season. Also, he’s been hit a team-high seven times. 

            *Sophomore INF/OF Henry Allen (.500-3-12) posted a monster week, batting .538 (7-for-13) with a 1.231 SLG%, seven runs scored, three doubles, three walks, two home runs and 11 RBI.

            *Sophomore INF/OF Rylan Lujo has a team-best .615 average (8-for-13) with eight runs scored, two home runs and six RBI. 

            *Junior C/OF Daniel Jackson (.370-4-11) leads the team in home runs and stolen bases (4-for-4).               

*Senior SS Kolby Branch (.250-3-6) has hit a home run in three straight games.

            *Overall, the Bulldogs batted .394 with 14 home runs in outscoring Samford 45-5 for a series sweep.

            *For the season, Georgia is batting .356 with a .756 SLG% and .488 OB%.

            *Georgia is averaging 3.43 Home Runs per Game (HR/G) in 2026. The 2025 squad averaged 2.40 HR/G while the 2024 team averaged 2.52 HR/G. Georgia set a school record for home runs in 2024 with 151 while last year’s squad finished with the second most in school history (144).
