Seminoles Dominate Doubleheader – Florida State University

TALLAHASEE – The Florida State men’s tennis team (8-4) earned a pair of victories in a home doubleheader against Jacksonville State and Southern Miss. The Seminoles handed the Gamecocks its second loss of the season (7-2) at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center, then earned a 7-0 victory over the Golden Eagles (2-3) in the afternoon.

FSU VS. JACKSONVILLE STATE
The Seminoles earned the doubles point against Jacksonville State with wins at the one and three lines. The top 15-ranked pair in the nation, No. 14 Luis Felipe Miguel and Erik Schiessl, won their eighth-straight match with a 7-5 decision over Lucius Soller and Zach Murphy. Florida State quickly turned out to clinch the doubles point on court three, with Oren Ezerzer and Gabor Hornung adding a win on court three. Court two was tied at 6-6 before going unfinished. 

Justin Lyons kept the ball rolling in singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Zach Murphy. No. 109 Luis Felipe Miguel was then able to set up Rusher the clinching point after defeating Charlie Penman 6-4, 6-3. Rusher capped off the morning session with a two-set win, securing the 4-0 result for Florida State.

FSU VS. SOUTHERN MISS
Florida State opened the afternoon session, securing the doubles point against Southern Miss. The Seminoles earned its first doubles victory, led by Jan Sebesta and Gabor Hornung, who won 6-1. No. 14 Luis Felipe Miguel and Erik Schiessl followed and clinched the doubles point with a victory. On court two, Lyons and Rusher went unfinished before the point was secured.

Momentum carried into singles as Justin Lyons earned the first singles win of the match for Florida State, winning 6-2, 6-3 over Eric Perkowski. Hornung matched the pace with a two-set win, defeating Olle Noltorp to earn the second singles point. Jan Sebesta closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory to clinch the Seminoles’ second victory of the day.
Florida State will begin ACC action against Notre Dame on Thursday in South Bend, Indiana, before heading to Louisville on Sunday at 12 p.m. Live stats and streaming will be available on Seminoles.com
