Seminoles Score Five Second-Half Goals at Atlanta Lacrosse Invitational
Army jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead to begin the opening quarter. With 8:16 to go in the first, Meg Kenny found a wide-open Amelia Brite in front of the crease to get the Seminoles on the board. The Black Knights scored four more goals to end the quarter with an 8-1 lead.
Another Black Knight goal opened play to begin the second quarter. An Army foul on Kenny led to a free position shot attempt which Kenny would take advantage of. Army scored two more goals in the half taking a 11-2 lead into the break.
The Seminoles did not back down in the second half. 55 seconds into the start of the third quarter Brynn Perkins found space and scored the third Seminole goal of the evening. Army responded with one of their two third quarter goals for a 12-3 advantage. Kenny drew another free position shot foul and capitalized for her second goal of the game. One minute later, senior attacker Lola Mancuso would find her way into the net, scoring on another free position attempt for FSU. Army held a 13-5 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
A yellow card on Army set up FSU with a man-up opportunity and Summer Harrell took advantage, finding the back of the net on another FSU free position attempt. Minutes later Kenny would complete the hat trick with 4:04 left to play in the fourth quarter, scoring her third free position shot attempt of the game.
Florida State outscored Army 5-2 in the second half and held the Black Knights scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Kenny’s hat trick marks her third multi-goal game of the season and upped her goal total to 10 tying Mancuso for the Seminole lead.
Mancuso extended her point streak to 20 games with her 10th goal of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Ward spent 44 minutes in the net for Florida State, totaling a career-high in saves with four.
The Seminoles return home on Tuesday to face No. 6 Boston College with first draw set for noon. The game will be broadcast live on ACCNX and live stats will be available on seminoles.com.
