No. 4/5 Softball Moves to 18-0 With Saturday Victories Over Longwood and Lindenwood
Ava Brown (5-0) shined for the Gators at the plate and in the circle against the Lions, throwing her second complete-game shutout in her last two starts. She allowed just two hits with a career-high seven strikeouts and no walks in five innings of work.
Kenleigh Cahalan continued her hot streak at the plate, recording back-to-back three RBI games, slugging a three-run home run, a two-RBI double and an RBI double.
18 games into her senior season Cahalan leads the Gators in batting average (.500), slugging percentage (1.019), RBI (28), doubles (7), home runs (7), hits (27) and total bases (55).
Florida improved to 18-0 over Longwood in the all-time series, while picking up its first win over Lindenwood in the two teams’ first-ever meeting.
NOTABLES:
- Ava Brown has thrown back-to-back five-inning complete-game shutouts in her last two starts – at North Florida (Feb. 18) and vs. Lindenwood (Feb. 21)
- In each of those wins, she’s also hit a home run
- Brown has not allowed an earned run in her last 14 innings pitched
- Brown, the nation’s leader in overall walks, already has 23 this season
- She has drawn multiple walks in three-straight outings and in four of the last five games
- With her two-run home run against the Lancers, Jocelyn Erickson has hit 37 home runs as a Gator
- Erickson is now tied with Bailey Castro (2012-15) for tenth-most home runs in program history
- Cassidy McLellan and Cahalan each extended their season on-base streaks to 18 games
- The Gators drew 21 walks as a team on Saturday
- Florida had 14 walks against the Lancers, the most in a single game since drawing 16 vs. Illinois State on Feb. 11, 2023
- Brown and Taylor Shumaker each led the team with four walks on the day
- Florida has recorded at least one home run in 16 of its 18 games
- The Gators scored three runs on wild pitches and one run on a passed ball against Longwood
