No. 12 Gators Grab 17-13 Win Over No. 19 Greyhounds Off Hamilton’s 11 Point Performance and Strong Second-Half Defense

Baltimore, Md. – Clark Hamilton tied a program record with 11 points as the No. 12/10 Gators held the No. 19/19 Greyhounds to three goals in the second half in a 17-13 win on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Florida was down by as much as three in the second quarter before going on an 8-2 scoring run between the end of the second quarter and middle of the third quarter to take a 14-10 lead, a lead the Gators would not give up.
 
Clark Hamilton led all scorers with 7 goals and 4 assist as Frannie Hahn, Gabby Greene, and Gabbi Koury each added two goals. Hahn and Caroline Hoskins each added two assists a piece. Maya Soskin came into the game with 11:12 left in the second quarter and post a .600 save percentage, making 9 saves on 15 shots faced.

The Greyhounds were led by Elisa Faklaris with four goals as four different players added an assist.

 

How It Happened

 

First Quarter (Greyhounds 4, Gators 3)

  • Loyola struck first less than a minute into the game before Gabby Greene and Autumn Blair would score less than a minute apart to give Florida a 2-1 lead.
  • Clark Hamilton would score her first goal of the game to retake the lead at 3-2 after an Elisa Faklaris goal for Loyola.
  • The Greyhounds tallied two goals to take a 4-3 lead at the end of first 15 minutes.

 
Second Quarter (Greyhounds 10, Gators 9)

  • Less than 28 seconds after Loyola expanded their lead to 5-3, Hamilton would respond with to make 5-4.
  • After goals from Morgan Ruhnke and Emma Talago for the Greyhounds, Caroline Hoskins would score her first career goal and Hahn would score her first of the game to make it 7-6 Greyhounds
  • Loyola scored two goals in 21 second to make it 9-6, matching their biggest lead of the day.
  • The Gators would begin their comeback by adding three goals, from Gabby Greene, Boo Dewitt, and Clark Hamilton, to Loyola’s one goal to cut the lead to one goal.

 
Third Quarter (Gators 14, Loyola 13)

  • The Orange and Blue came back from halftime picking up where they left off as they scored five goals in the first half of the third quarter, with three coming from Clark Hamilton and Hahn and DeWitt adding one a piece to take a 14-10 lead.
  • Loyola would respond with three goals to make it 14-13 Gators.

 
Fourth Quarter (Gators 17, Loyola 13)

  • Hamilton put on in the back of the net 31 seconds into the fourth quarter to make it 15-13.
  • The Gators defense locked Loyola down, with Kaitlyn Davies causing a turnover and Maya Soskin making two saves, before Gabbi Koury expanded the lead to 16-13.
  • A Caroline Hoskin’s green card put the Greyhounds a woman up with 3:22 left but the Gators defense stood strong, only allowing one shot before causing a turnover and adding their final goal of the game from Gabbi Koury.

 
Key Notes

  • Clark Hamilton’s 11 points tied a program record for points in a game as she joins Sydney Pirreca (5/2/19 vs Vanderbilt) and Ashley Bruns (2/24/12 vs Siena) as the only players to do so. Her 11 points also broke sophomore record for points in a game, which was set by Danielle Pavinelli with nine (4/4/22 at Cincinnati).
  • Hamilton’s seven goals ties Danielle Pavinelli (3/27/22 at Arizona State) and Kitty Cullen’s (4/2/11 at Penn State) record for goals by a sophomore in a game.
  • Hahn’s five points (2 goals and three assists) put her at 101 points in her career, making her the 26th player in program history with 100 points and tied for third with Sammi Burgess for fastest player to 100 points at 25 games, they are being Emma LoPinto (23 games) and Ashley Bruns (24 games).
  • Freshmen Autumn Blair and Caroline Hoskins each scored their first career goal as Hoskins also registered her first two assists in her career.
