Strayer’s Weekend Debut Nets SEC Freshman of the Week Honors
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After debuting with a pair of stellar performances across Florida’s Saturday doubleheader sweep of UAB, rookie outfielder Cash Strayer was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Sharing honors alongside Oklahoma’s Cord Rager, Strayer made his first two career stats in games two and three on Saturday, helping Florida to two victories and a come-from-behind series win. The Tampa, Fla. native finished 5-for-8 along with his first-career home run, two doubles and two runs scored. Strayer led Florida in every slash category (.625/.625/1.250) as well as OPS (1.875).
Collecting multiple hits in both games played, Strayer debuted in game two of the series and went 3-for-4 with one double and one run. He followed that with a 2-for-4 effort in the finale, chipping in another double and run while connecting for his first-career homer in the eighth inning.
Excelling in all aspects of the game, Strayer did not strike out during the series and registered a 1.000 fielding percentage across five putouts in the outfield.
The action picks back up for Florida with the first midweek slate of 2026, entailing a home-and-home with Stetson. The Gators travel to DeLand, Fla. on Tuesday, Feb. 17 for a 6:30 p.m. tilt before hosting the Hatters at Condron Family Ballpark on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m.
