BERKELEY, CALIF. – Florida State lacrosse (2-1, 0-1 ACC) fell to California (2-1, 1-0) 10-9 in its first conference game of the season Friday afternoon at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, California.

Both offenses were stagnant to begin the contest. After 10 minutes of play in the first quarter, the Seminoles earned their first free position shot of the afternoon which was converted by Lola Mancuso, giving FSU a 1-0 lead.

A California green card gave the Noles a man up opportunity and Meg Kenny took advantage, extending the Seminoles lead. Just two minutes later, Kenny found the back of the net for her second goal of the afternoon, and FSU held a 3-0 lead.

The FSU defense shut out Cal for the first 20 minutes of the contest, until a Golden Bear goal cut into the Seminole lead with 10 minutes remaining in the half.

Kenny responded for FSU, scoring her third goal of the game. California answered with two goals of their own before Kenny caught fire again, with four first-half goals to give the Seminoles a 5-3 lead. Summer Harrell extended the lead 6-3 with a goal right before halftime.

California went on to score three unanswered goals in the third quarter to tie the game at 6-6. Harrell scored her second goal of the game to give the Seminoles the lead, but one minute later the Golden Bears retaliated to enter the fourth quarter tied 7-7.

Two quick fourth quarter goals kept the game deadlocked 8-8 until Cal scored its second goal of the period to take a 9-8 lead.

Trailing for the first time this season, Lydia Ward drew a foul to earn a free position shot which she would convert to tie the game 9-9.

Cal scored with 1:38 remaining in the game to earn the 10-9 victory.

Kenny scored four goals in the game, to give her seven on the year. It is FSU’s second four-goal scorer of the season. Harrell would finish with two goals on just two shots while also recording two assists.

The Seminoles return to action on Sunday at UC Davis with the first draw set for 2 p.m. ET. The game will be live streamed on YouTube with live stats available on seminoles.com.
