Dismus Lokira Kickstarts Multi-Meet Weekend with Victory in Boston
BOSTON – Distance runner Dismus Lokira headlined Alabama track and field’s multi-meet weekend with a dramatic, first-place finish in the men’s 5,000-meter invite. Running at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Lokira’s PR-setting time of 13:21.54 also broke the Alabama school record.
Down in Clemson, S.C., Crimson Tide field athletes Noelle Igberaese (women’s weight throw, fourth place) and Amelia Johson (women’s pole vault, second place) stole day one, as the pair recorded top-four finishes in their respective events. Igberaese’s PR of 19.42 meters (63-8.75) moved her into No. 10 all-time at UA, while Johnson’s PR-clearance of 3.97m (13-0.25) propelled her to No. 8 all-time in program history.
Before the day was done, Jackson Harris (seventh, 4:02.06) and Evan Simpson (10th, 4:03.47) logged top-10 finishes in the men’s mile at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn.
