Indoor Track & Field Prepares for Regular Season Finale

TALLAHASSEE – The No. 11/NR Florida State track and field teams will compete in two meets to wrap up the indoor regular season, sending contingents to both the Valentine Invite in Boston and the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina. Both events will begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday.
 
Friday’s action will start at 11 a.m. in Clemson, while the Boston Valentine Invite is scheduled to start at 4:20 p.m.
 
In the latest USTFCCCA TFRI National Rankings, the women stay steady at No. 11. Several members of the Garnet and Gold are inside the top 16 nationally within their respective events heading into the weekend.
 
Shenese Walker continues her reign at the top of the national ranks in the women’s 60-meter dash after a record-setting day at the Razorback Invitational. Walker was named the ACC Women’s Co-Performer of the Week after setting a new program and ACC record of 7.09 seconds. The Jamaica native’s performance now stands as the NCAA-leading mark and ranks as the fifth-fastest time in the world this season.
 
Kaelyaah Liburd, who currently holds the seventh-fastest time in the nation this season in the women’s 400, will make her final regular-season appearance this weekend at the Tiger Paw Invitational. Liburd’s time of 51.68 was set earlier this season in Clemson at the Orange and Purple Invitational and stands as the program record and marks her second national record for the British Virgin Islands.
 
Suus Altorf holds three of the fastest times in numerous events on the FSU all-time list, with her latest performance coming in the women’s 3,000 at the Razorback Invitational. Altorf posted the fourth-fastest time in program history at 8:58.36. The Netherlands native will represent the women’s distance at the Boston Valentine’s Invite alongside teammate Bieke Schipperen, who set the second-fastest time in program history in the same event, with a personal best of 8:55.54. Schipperen also contributed to the Distance Medley Relay team that holds the second-fastest time in school history and is currently ranked fifth in the nation this season at 10:55.58.
 
Micahi Danzy will make his long-awaited debut in the men’s 400, after helping the 4×400 relay that currently holds the seventh-fastest time in program history at the Clemson Orange and Purple Invitational earlier in the season.

Florida State closed out the Razorback Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track last month.

After contributing to the men’s distance medley relay on Friday, Aniol Borras made his mark in the men’s one-mile run with a 21st-place finish. Borras’ time of 4:00.40 marks a new personal best and is the sixth-fastest in program history.

 

Alongside Altorf and Schipperen, true freshman Rylee Blade made her debut on the all-time list in the 3,000 with a personal best and sixth-fastest time in program history at 9:03.46.

Braeden Ofosu-Kwarteng made his debut in the men’s 400, tying the 10th-fastest time in program history at 46.73.

Kyvon Tatham placed fifth overall in the men’s triple with a new personal-best (16.20m) and remained at sixth all-time in FSU history.

Isaac Hirshman Chandler made his first appearance in the record books after placing ninth in the men’s 3,000 with a lifetime best and fifth-fastest time in school history at 7:55.52.
