No. 6 Softball Caps Off Undefeated Opening Weekend
The Gators opened the day with an 11-2 win over Kansas, before downing USF 6-1 in the weekend finale.
Florida’s pitching has staff shined through the first five games of the season, combining for a .87 staff ERA. The Gators have allowed just four runs in 34 innings with 39 strikeouts.
Keagan Rothrock (3-0) picked up her third victory of the season against Kansas, allowing two runs in 6.2 innings and striking out eight Jayhawks.
Katelynn Oxley (1-0) earned her first win of the season against the Bulls, throwing four innings, allowing one run with five strikeouts.
At the plate, Jocelyn Erickson and Kenleigh Cahalan led the team on Sunday, each going 4-for-7 (.571), with Erickson driving in a team-high four runs.
Four different Gators, Cahalan, Ella Wesolowski, Taylor Shumaker and Ava Brown, hit home runs on Sunday, while Florida had five different players combine for six home runs on the weekend.
Florida outscored opponents 37-4 during the tournament.
NOTABLES:
- Keagan Rothrock has recorded at least one strikeout in 14 of the 17 innings she’s pitched in over her first three starts
- She leads the pitching staff with 22 strikeouts
- Ava Brown and Kenleigh Cahalan each hit their first home runs of the season against the Jayhawks, going back-to-back in the top of the seventh. Brown’s was a two-run home run and Cahalan’s was a solo shot
- Ella Wesolowski hit her first home run as a Gator against USF, a two-run home run in the top of the seventh
- She has now hit seven home runs in her career
- Cahalan matched her career-high of two doubles vs. Kansas
- It’s the third time the senior infielder has hit two doubles in the same game in her career and first since Feb. 28, 2025 vs. Samford
- Gabi Comia went a career-best 3-for-4 at the plate vs. Kansas
- After recording just one multi-hit game as a freshman, Comia has already recorded multi-hit games in three of five games this weekend
- With her save against USF, Brown moved into a tie with Katie Chronister and Rylee Trlicek for sixth-most career saves in program history (8)
- Cassidy McLellan was the only Gator to record a hit in all five games this weekend
- Eight of Florida’s 17 runs scored on Sunday came with two outs
