ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Alabama track and field closed the New Mexico Collegiate Classic with a record-breaking performance from Samuel Ogazi on Saturday.

Ogazi captured the men’s 400-meter title with a facility-record time of 44.85 in his season debut for the event. The reigning outdoor national champion’s time ranks No. 2 on this year’s world list, No. 13 all-time for the event and No. 2 in Alabama history.

Additionally, the Crimson Tide added multiple podium finishes on Saturday, highlighted by victories in the men’s 4×400-meter relay (3:06.49 – Alexander Osayemi, Tarsis Orogot, David Thid, Andrew Sirras) and a runner-up showing from Treneese Hamilton in the women’s shot put (17.30m | 56-9.25). Christopher Young added a third-place finish in the men’s shot put (17.61m | 57-9.50), while Isaiah Patrick advanced to the 60-meter hurdles event final and placed sixth. Patrick ran a personal-best 7.78 in the semifinals to move to No. 7 all-time at UA.

“This weekend was another step forward for us. We had some good results and saw a few athletes hit national qualifying marks, which is always encouraging at this point in the season. While it’s good to see that progress, the emphasis still remains on continuing to build momentum and consistency as we keep moving throughout the season.”
