Women’s Tennis Heads to ITA National Team Indoors
Fast Facts
- Georgia is one of 16 teams set to compete at the 2026 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, hosted by Northwestern University and the University of Illinois. The tournament begins Friday, Feb. 6, and runs through Tuesday, Feb. 10.
- Georgia will face Virginia for the second straight year at ITA Indoors and leads the all-time series 7-1. The Bulldogs last met the Cavaliers at the tournament in last year’s semifinals, earning a 4-0 sweep.
- Joining Georgia on the Evanston bracket are hosts Northwestern as well as No. 4 Auburn, No. 5 LSU, No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 9 NC State, and No. 14 Tennessee.
- The Bulldogs own five National Indoor Titles (1994, 1995, 2002, 2019, 2025) in 34 appearances, dating back to its inception in 1988.
Last Time Out
- No. 3 North Carolina defeated No. 1 Georgia 5-2 at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill. The loss brought Georgia to 1-1 on the season and snapped their longest unbeaten stretch since April 2025.
- Georgia’s pairing of Emma Dong and Anastasiia Gureva secured a win in doubles, 6-3, before UNC took the next two to secure the point.
- Dong picked up her first career ranked victory by defeating UNC’s No. 51 Theadora Rabman 6-1, 7-6(5).
- Aysegul Mert battled from a set down to win a tough three-set match against No. 23 Ange Oby Kajuru, 4-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(1) — their third meeting of the season.
Scouting the Opponent
- Virginia is 6-2 this season and enters Friday’s match coming off a loss to No. 10 Ohio State. With Georgia also coming off a loss to a top-three opponent, both teams will be eager to bounce back.
- Virginia is seeking its first ITA National Team Indoor Championship title in its 14th appearance in the tournament. The Cavaliers advanced to the semifinals in 2025.
- Virginia has five players ranked in singles, led by Annabelle Xu at No. 26, followed by Vivian Yang (No. 34), Isabelle Lacy (No. 69), Martina Genis Salas (No. 75) and Katie Rolls (No. 108).
- Virginia also has three ranked doubles teams, led by Melodie Collard and Yang at No. 4, followed by Xu and Genis Salas (No. 21) and Blair Gill and Rolls (No. 90).

- No. 1 Georgia enters the weekend with six Bulldogs listed in the first ITA spring rankings. In singles, Mert is ranked No. 4, followed by Deniz Dilek (No. 23), Gureva (No. 33), Sofia Rojas (No. 42), Anastasiia Lopata (No. 74) and Patricija Paukstyte (No. 77).
- Georgia has two doubles teams ranked, led by Dong and Dilek at No. 26, followed by Gureva and Mert at No. 47.
