Late Heroics Helps Lift Alabama Past Texas A&M, 100-97
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The RV/RV Alabama men’s basketball team used a late 19-6 run to take the lead and held on to defeat league-leading RV/25 Texas A&M, 100-97, Wednesday night inside Coleman Coliseum. The contest featured 28 lead changes and 13 ties throughout as the Crimson Tide handed the Aggies its second league defeat this season.
Alabama (15-7, 5-4 SEC) had six players score in double figures on the night, as the high-scoring effort was piloted by Aden Holloway’s 20 points and career-high six rebounds. Head Coach Nate Oats Postgame Comments
“I thought our guys had a good response to the loss at Florida. I thought our guards did a really good job taking care of the ball; we wound up with six turnovers. I give A&M a lot of credit. They’re a good team and were in first place by themselves for a reason. Good team with good players who averaged forcing 15-plus turnovers a game coming into this so it took a lot of focus from our guards. Credit to Amari (Allen), who had six assists and one turnover and Labaron (Philon), who had a bad game against Florida, had 36 minutes with zero turnovers. (Aden) Holloway had a career high in rebounds tonight to go along with four assists and two turnovers.
“We have been talking about the possession game, and we have not done the best this year. Turnovers were even and rebounds were plus-eight. The plus-eight made up for the fact that we did not shoot the ball particularly well and we missed too many free throws outside of Aiden Sherrell. Our bigs did a good job keeping Agee off the glass, he had the lowest number of rebounds he’s had all year and no offensive rebounds. We did a good job on the glass and they had shots from guys who normally don’t make shots.”
