McCoy and Witte Highlight Day One in Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Florida Gators Track and Field completed day one of the Razorback Invitational on Friday with two first place finishes and a No. 4 spot on the women’s DMR school record list.

HIGHLIGHTS

Sprints

Six Gators competed in the men’s 200m dash, led by Wanya McCoy’s first place finish after clocking a 20.50. Garrett Fox also delivered a strong performance, winning his heat and finishing eighth overall while posting a season best time of 20.93. 

 

Throws

John Luke Witte highlighted the field events with a first-place finish in the men’s weight throw. The Gainesville native sealed the victory on his final attempt, recording a mark of 20.97m / 68’9.75″. 

Jumps

Asia Phillips made her long jump debut setting her first collegiate mark at 6.33m / 20’9.25″. The sophomore boasted her new personal best on her third jump to place fifth overall in the field. 

Temoso Masikane also secured a podium finish in the long jump, placing second in his first collegiate competition in the event. His opening round leap of 7.71m / 25’3.5″ held the lead through nearly four rounds before he ultimately finished runner-up.

Distance 

Two Gators recorded top-10 finishes in the men’s 800m, led by Gavin Nelson, who clocked a personal best time of 1:48.36 to place eighth overall as Miguel Pantojas followed closely behind, finishing tenth with a time of 1:48.41.
