Floor Rotation Headlines No. 3 Alabama’s Victory over No. 22 Oregon State

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 3 Alabama gymnastics team (3-1) used an electric 49.675 rotation score on the floor exercise to stamp its 197.450-195.825 win over the No. 22 Oregon State Beavers (2-5) Friday night in Coleman Coliseum. The score tied the program’s fourth highest on the apparatus.

UA swept the individual honors, as four different gymnasts accumulated seven event titles, highlighted by four from senior all-arounder Gabby Gladieux (vault, balance beam, floor exercise, all-around). Chloe LaCoursiere claimed the uneven bars, as Kylee Kvamme (beam) and Jamison Sears (floor) tied Gladieux on their respective events.

“Tonight was kind of a whirlwind, to be honest. I think my takeaway from this evening’s performance is that this team can handle the hard better and we talked a lot about that this week – every week, really, and creating environments and moments where they have to step into challenges, adversity, uncertainty, and handle it. I think that was really tested tonight from starting on vault.

“We had a few different challenges [on beam], a couple of different start-value issues and things that were a little uncharacteristic. I thought our team did a great job of handling that uncertainty. We ultimately were able to win that inquiry [of Chloe LaCoursiere’s routine], which was a big deal for our team. She handled it like the veteran champ that she is, not letting it affect her and just stepping in and doing her thing.”

“To be able to finish strong with just a lights-out floor performance, tied for the fourth-highest program score, is huge – a 49.675. Lots of career highs, lots of season highs – that’s our floor team right there… Overall, it was a great learning experience tonight. We handled a lot of hard moments, and that’s really the best preparation to be able to go into a postseason-like competition and win those moments.”
