Gators, Francisco lead into final round of Sea Best Intercollegiate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The No. 8 Florida women’s golf team and Paula Francisco lead through 36-holes of the Jacksonville Intercollegiate on Monday at San Jose Country Club. Tomorrow’s final round is slated for a 10:45 a.m. shotgun start.
 
UF controlled the lead from start, and led by double-digit strokes the majority of the spring opener through windy and cold conditions. Florida is 20-under through two rounds and own a seven-shot lead for the final 18-holes over No. 16 Duke (-13).
 
The Orange and Blue look to defend last year’s title at the Sea Best and capture its third straight team title after closing the fall with back-to-back wins at the OU Intercollegiate and The Ally. A win also will mark back-to-back seasons of a three-tournament win streak.
 
At the end of round one, Florida shot 11-under and owned a 14-shot lead with all five in the lineup were inside the top-5 and under par with three golfers tied for the lead; Paula Francisco (-3), Katelyn Huber (-3) and Siuue Wu (-3 & bogey-free) along with Megan Propeck and Elaine Widjaja tied for 5th (-2).
 
Francisco pushed ahead into the solo lead behind five consecutive birdies between holes No. 8-12, featuring two par3s, two par4s and par5. She logged a career-low and bogey-free 66 (-6) in her second round to sit 9-under with a two-shot lead, and aims to capture his first collegiate title tomorrow.
 
The rest of the lineup are all in the top-9 with Wu in 3rd after shooting a pair of 3-unders (69), across her 36-holes, she made four birdies, an eagle and one bogey. Huber closed with an eagle on the par5 (371 yards) 3rd and is 3-under in T6th followed by Widjaja (-2) in 8th and Propeck (-1) in 9th.

Competing as individuals, both Inés Archer (T10) and Sophie Stevens (18th) each improved in their second set of 18-holes with Archer a bogey-free 68 (-4) and Stevens a 71 (-1). Additionally, Addison Klonowski (+3) is tied for 15th.
