Track and Field Opens Season in Gainesville
TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State track and field teams will begin the indoor season this weekend at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational on Friday, January 16 in Gainesville, Florida.
Friday’s meet features a full day with field events beginning at 9 a.m. with the women’s high jump and running events starting at 1:30 p.m. following the national anthem. The schedule includes a wide range of events across all disciplines, providing athletes an early opportunity to establish marks and build competitive momentum. The sprint and hurdles open the afternoon sessions, followed by middle- and long-distance finals before the night closes with the 4×400-meter relay.
Last year at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, the Seminoles collected 33 top-five finishes in 17 different events highlighted by returner Bieke Schipperen who broke the facility record in the one mile run that was set by her teammate Suus Altorf in 2024. Schipperen also ran the fourth-fastest time in FSU history at 4:35.15. Altorf had a day of her own after winning the 3,000, clocking the 10th-fastest time in FSU history in the event with a time of 9:14.31.
FSU returns 22 key student-athletes including 11 that earned All-ACC honors at the 2025 ACC Indoor Championships. Shenese Walker captured her second indoor first-team All-American honors in the 60-meter at last year’s NCAA Indoor National Championship. Andre Korbmacher and Tyson Williams secured second-team All-American in the 60 hurdles.
Micahi Danzy will return for his second season with the program after a stellar freshman year. The Tallahassee native captured bronze in the men’s 60 before putting on a show at the ACC Outdoor Championship. Danzy became the first dual sport athlete from track and football to earn gold in the men’s 400, after his lifetime performance of 44.38. The sophomore standout reset the FSU record and claimed the ACC meet and conference record.
