TALLAHASSEE – Michael Fly, who is in his first year on the Florida State men’s basketball staff as its general manager and assistant coach, has been named to the 2026 Silver Waves Media list of the 100 Most Impactful High Major Coaches. The Seminoles are one of 11 schools from the ACC and one of only three schools from the conference to have multiple coaches named to the prestigious list.

Fly is considered to be one of the top assistant coaches in the ACC.

Now in its seventh year, many of the honorees named to the annual high major assistants coaches list have gone on to be head coach at the Division I level.

After serving as the associate head coach at Jacksonville University from 2023 to 2025, Fly returned to Florida State for the 2025-26 season after serving as a graduate assistant under the legendary head coach Leonard Hamilton.

With 19 years of experience in college and professional basketball, Fly has built a strong coaching portfolio. Before his time at Jacksonville, he was the Director of Scouting and Analytics at Missouri under head coach Dennis Gates during  the 2022-23 season.

Fly spent over a decade at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), first serving as an assistant coach for seven years before being promoted to head coach in 2018, a role he held until 2022. During his tenure, he contributed to nearly 190 wins, three NCAA Tournament victories, three Atlantic Sun Tournament titles, six ASUN Tournament Finals appearances, three ASUN Regular Season Championships, two NIT berths, and a CIT appearance. He was also part of FGCU’s historic Sweet Sixteen run, which brought national recognition to the program.
