Joint Effort Stops Suspect after Attempted Carjacking, Burglary, and Vehicle Theft

A stolen car. An attempted carjacking. A suspect running through neighborhoods trying to hide.
Quick coordination between OCSO and netted a suspect connected to an attempted carjacking, stolen vehicle, and residential burglary.
30-year old Matthew Teems of Fort Walton Beach was taken into custody last night.
Fort Walton Beach Police Department officers were looking for a stolen vehicle when OCSO deputies spotted it in our jurisdiction. Deputies then located Teems after he entered a home while trying to flee from them.
Earlier in the evening, Teems had attempted to forcibly enter a running car with a woman and her two small children inside. Thankfully the victim was able to escape and safely call 911.
In all, the investigation found Teems had abandoned a stolen vehicle, run through yards, jumped fences, attempted a carjacking, and entered a residence in an effort to avoid capture. He later admitted to fleeing law enforcement.
“This arrest is a strong example of how teamwork and communication between our agencies keeps our community safe,” said Sheriff Eric Aden. “We’re grateful for the swift actions of our deputies, the FWB PD, and the alert residents who helped.”
And as always, if you see suspicious activity contact the OCSO at 850.651.7400.
