Me’Arah O’Neal Named SEC Co-Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Florida’s Me’Arah O’Neal was named the SEC Co-Player of the Week today after the sophomore forward scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds, handed out four assists, picked up three steals and blocked four shots in the Gators’ 82-66 victory Sunday over Furman.

O’Neal posted that stat line in under 34 minutes of play. Those specific stat totals have been matched or bettered in 34 minutes or less on just six occasions in women’s division I basketball since the 1999-2000 season.

It is the first player of the week honor for O’Neal, and the team’s second this year as sophomore guard Liv McGIll won the award in the first week of the season.

O’Neal is averaging 14.3 points, 7.9 assists and 1.9 blocked shots per game on the year while connecting on 53.4 percent of her field goal attempts. Her six double-doubles on the season are tied for the 12th most in the nation.

The Gators travel to Knoxville, Tenn. this Thursday for a New Year’s Day matchup against the nationally-ranked Lady Vols. Tip at Food City Center is slated for 2 p.m. EST.
