Gianna Paul Signs with NWSL’s Kansas City Current

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– Alabama’s Gianna Paul is set to continue her career as a professional athlete after signing a three-year contract with the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) Kansas City Current on Friday.

Paul is the ninth Alabama soccer player to earn a NWSL contract and will compete alongside current league standouts Nealy Martin (Angle City FC), McKinley Crone (Orlando Pride) and Reyna Reyes (Portland Thorns). The NWSL draft was eliminated in 2024 as part of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • Surpassed two 20-year-old program records, originally set by Libby Probst in 2005, becoming the Tide’s all-time leader in goals (40) and points (94)
  • Tallied a team-leading 12 goals in back-to-back years to close her collegiate career
  • Also, UA’s program record holder for career shots (279) and career shots on goal (115) as well as single season shots (80)
  • Concluded her collegiate career ranked fifth among active Division I players in career goals (40) and eighth in career points (94)
  • Led the team in goals (12), points (31), shots (80) and shots on goal (26) during the 2025 season
  • Finished her senior year ranked 25th nationally in shots per game (3.81), 28th in total points (31), 30th in total goals (12), 32nd in points per game (1.48) and 39th in goals per game (0.57)
  • Named a 2025 First-Team All-SEC honoree, garnering her third consecutive first-team and fifth-overall conference nod
  • Earned her third career selection for United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region honors, being named to the first team in both 2023 and 2024, and second team in 2025
  • Earned a spot on the midseason Hermann Trophy Watchlist
