No. 9/10/10 Alabama Football Falls 28-7 to 3/3/3 Georgia in SEC Championship

ATLANTA – The No. 9/10/10 Alabama football team (10-3, 7-1 SEC) fell 28-7 to No. 3/3/3 Georgia (12-1, 7-1 SEC) in the 2025 Southeastern Conference Football Championship on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. With the loss, the Crimson Tide will learn of its postseason fate on Sunday. 

Ty Simpson closed his night 19-of-39 through the air with one touchdown and one interception. Daniel Hill led all Tide ball-carriers with four carries for 11 yards. Germie Bernard paced the Alabama receiving corps, producing six receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown. 

Defensively, Nikhai Hill-Green managed a team-high seven tackles, including half a tackle for loss, to go with two pass breakups. As well, Deontae Lawson and Bray Hubbard tallied six tackles apiece. The defensive unit combined to tally seven tackles for loss, four pass breakups and two quarterback hurries.

  • Alabama’s defeat snapped a streak of 17 consecutive wins in the city of Atlanta, a streak that began in 2009
  • Germie Bernard’s 23-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter was his seventh receiving score of the season and his first since Oct. 25 at South Carolina
  • Bernard’s 62 receiving yards mark the eighth time this season the senior has eclipsed 60-plus receiving yards
  • Ty Simpson now has completed 275 passes on the season which stands as the third-most in single season in program history
  • Nikhai Hill Green’s seven tackles matched his season high set twice previously, most recently at South Carolina, while his two pass breakups set a new career best at UA
  • The Alabama defense held Georgia to just 6-of-16 (37.5 percent) on third down attempts
  • All four Georgia touchdowns came on a short field, with its longest scoring drive of 57 yards coming after a Simpson interception

First Quarter

  • 4:36 – UGA | The Bulldogs took advantage of a blocked punt and subsequent field position, scoring on a one-yard touchdown pass to close a quick four-play, 21-yard drive. (7-0, Georgia)

Second Quarter

  • 8:43 – UGA | After an interception thrown by Alabama’s Ty Simpson, the Dawgs grinded out a 14-play, 57-yard scoring drive, capped by a five-yard touchdown pass on third-and-goal. (14-0, Georgia)

Third Quarter

  • 10:47 – UGA | The Bulldogs again created a short field as the result of a 24-yard punt return, finding the end zone with a nine-yard touchdown run. The scoring drive needed six plays to cover 40 yards. (21-0, Georgia)

Fourth Quarter

  • 12:33 – UA | The Crimson Tide found the scoreboard for the only time, with Ty Simpson connecting with Germie Bernard, who evaded numerous defenders en route to the end zone, for a 23-yard touchdown. The possession amassed 91 yards over nine plays. (21-7, Georgia)
  • 6:51 – UGA | Given the football at the Alabama 12-yard line after a turnover on downs, the Bulldogs capitalized three plays later with a 13-yard catch-and-run to add on to the lead. (28-7, Georgia)
