BOSTON –  Four Gators launched the 2025-26 Indoor Track and Field season with standout performances at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, highlighted by freshman Kelvin Cheruiyot’s record-breaking debut in the men’s 5,000 meters.

Cheruiyot delivered a historic performance in his first collegiate indoor race, clocking 13:31.40 to break the Florida men’s indoor 5,000m record previously set in 2015. His time earned him 15th overall and capped a strong transition from a successful freshman cross-country campaign to his first appearance on the indoor track.

On the women’s side, seniors Hilda Olemomoi and Tia Wilson, along with sophomore Judy Chepkoech, produced an elite showing in a highly competitive field as Olemomoi led the trio with a fourth place finish in 15:08.61. Chepkoech followed closely, securing seventh in 15:12.70, while Wilson closed out the group with a strong 17th place finish in 15:33.19, setting a new personal best in the 5,000m.
