Crimson Tide Opens Indoor Season with Strong Distance Performances in Boston
BOSTON – Alabama track and field opened its indoor season Saturday with multiple standout performances at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. The Crimson Tide was highlighted by three UA all-time top-10 finishes from the distance contingent.
In her collegiate track and field debut, Caren Kiplagat clocked a 15:22.22 in the women’s 5,000-meter invitational to secure the fourth-fastest time in Crimson Tide history. On the men’s side, UA duo Dennis Kipruto (13:37.59) and Hudson Hurst (13:52.85) captured the fourth and 10th-best all-time 5,000-meter finishes, respectively, at Alabama.
“With the quick transition from cross country, this meet was about gaining experience and getting comfortable again on the track. We saw some steady efforts from our returners and some promising runs from our younger athletes. There’s still plenty to improve upon, but I’m proud of the way each of them approached the day with the right mindset. This gives us a strong foundation as we resume our indoor season in January.”
